UM mailing list refers to the service that enables individual to send email material to multiple recipients within UM community.
There are 3 types of mailing list service available :
1. ‘moderated’ - Specially intended to provide a standard channel to broadcast official news and events to UM community. All emails sent to the moderated mailing list will be filtered by list admin.
Here are the basic guidelines on how to send message to the moderated mailing list (uminfo/student_info/student_ips)
Please send the message in text format only ( no other format are allowed )
Attachment are strictly prohibited. This is to prevent from flooding of users mailbox unnecessarily. Full mailbox will prevent users from receiving any mail (Especially for those user who rarely read and maintain their mailbox).
There are two ways from which a user can choose to send attachment to the mailing list:
send an email with the attachment to umportal@um.edu.my stating that the attachment is for UM Community viewing.
Once UMPortal Admin upload the attachment to the umportal website, user can send an email to the desired mailing list stating the link/URL/address where the file have been stored.
OR
upload the attachment file using the file manager function in UMMail.
then send an email to the desired mailing list with instruction on how to access the shared file.
Example :
a.
Click on the Personal-->File Manager
b.
Type "username" in the Jump To field and click Go button
c.
Click on the "uploaded file name"
d.
Click download and choose "my folder" to save
Only UMMail/PerdanaMail account's user can use the mailing list.
Please make sure that message sent to the mailing list is not carbon copied to other email (cc to others) at the same time.

All users are advised to practise routine housekeeping to maintain their email accounts
Housekeeping steps are :
Delete all unwanted mails.
Copy those important emails to your pc before deleting them.
Unattended emails will cause the following:
User email accounts will exceed their quota.
User will not be able to send or receive new email including the emails from the mailing list.
The mailing list system will automatically take out the user's account from the mailing list if the user didn't inform the mailing list administrator (list_admin@um.edu.my or call 03-7967 6790) within 7 days from when the user's account reaches it's quota limits.
